After finishing the latest Devon Monk book it was time to hit up my e-reader for a visit with an old friend. Bedlam Boyz by Ellen Guon. While this book is sadly out of print it can often be found at used book stores and is a great introduction to the character Kayla who is featured in the first Bedlam Bard book written by Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon.

Kayla is a girl in the foster system who runs away with two other foster kids to live on the street. She discovers the world of magic through a robbery gone wrong and is drawn into the world of street gangs, elves, and magic over the course of the book. A very entertaining read it will whet your appetite for the rest of the series.

My only caveat, it is a bit dated since it was written in 1993, even so it is an old friend that I visit often.
